Suburban Farmhouse, Addition/Remodel Project, Novato CA

Most clients show up at initial design meetings with books or clippings from magazines to communicate the qualities of the home they want. The client of this addition and renovation project in Novato’s Country Club neighborhood took me on a field trip to visit the Carneros Inn & Spa in Napa, California to capture the atmosphere and character of the development. What arose was a contemporary suburban farmhouse. The aesthetic of the exterior lies in its simplicity. The white color scheme is enhanced with simple building massing and uncomplicated details including galvanized gutters and downspouts, trelliswork and rural light fixtures. For dramatic contrast, the interior of the home takes on a more stylish, modern motif. Contemporary materials and colors are integrated with sleek furnishings for a more sophisticated look. What resulted is a home with diametric schemes that blend together beautifully to create this modern farmhouse.
